Leum an Eireannaich is an impressive looking crag that sits high on the hill side at the head of Kirkton Glen near the village of Balquhidder. The base of the slope is stewn with large boulders including the house size Rob Roy's Putting Stone. The climbing consists of a number of lower grade trad routes on the main cliff and Putting stone, but there is plenty of scope for bouldering on the many other boulders.

Directions & Approach

Map Ref:516 245

Turn off the A84 at Kingshouse and follow the road to Balquhidder Village. Parking by donation is available at Balquhidder Village Hall.

Approach

Time 1-1.30 hours walking (but you could mountain bike much of the way on good forestry tracks)

Take the public footpath from the church (where you can see Rob Roys grave) along Kirkton Glen. You will soon join a Forestry Commission road. Follow these past a cross roads, and most of the way up the glen. As the road forks and curves back at the end of the glen follow a small footpath (signposted for Glen Dochart) that continues ahead. This footpath will lead you over a style and up to the crag, which should be very obvious on the skyline.
